When Life Is Just Not Fair (Part 1)

All this week I kept on thinking about the life of Joseph. It really dawned on me that a huge part of his life STUNK! Seriously a huge chunk of his life was extremely horrible and none of it was his fault. For those who do not know the account of Joseph’s life read Genesis 37 to 47 (It is an interesting read!)
Here is a brief run down:
1. His own siblings were jealous of the attention he received from his father
2. His siblings sold him into slavery. He was a faithful slave that rose in ranks but when things were looking up a horrible situation happened...
3. His masters wife wanted to sleep with him; however he refused to sleep with her. Therefore she lied on him and accused him of attempted assault and had him placed into prison.
4. The dude (Joseph) goes into prison and one day interprets the dream of two inmates which ended up coming true. The one inmate with the promising interpretation was released from jail and was restored (I believe) to being the baker of the king.
5. The freed man forgets about Joseph until the King has a dream that no one can interpret.
6. The king’s baker tells the king about Joseph, Joseph is summoned and interprets the dream correctly.
7. Joseph gets released from prison and was placed second in command to the King. Joseph successfully governs the territory through a severe famine. His brothers who sold him into slavery and his father who thought he was murdered had to request from him food rations to be survive the famine. They did not recognize him.

Oh my gosh, I honestly believe somewhere in between number 2 and four in the rundown my faith in the Lord would have been shaken or broken! When I think on Josephs story I think on many other individuals prominent, not well known, and people who I personally know where things in their life especially in their past was not fair. The things they were encountering was not fair at all in my opinion. Great, nice, awesome individuals who had or have a sincere and kind heart whereas some people that I know or have known did not have the best integrity, cruel, and dishonest in various aspects of their life were doing well and were not encountering hardships or severe trials.

I don’t know about you but when I think of Joseph’s life I am reminded that things do get better. That I should not get tired of being honest, striving to maintain integrity in all aspects of my life, and etc;  because as it is written I should reap in due season if I don’t give up (Galatians 6:9). Can you imagine what if Joseph have secretly slept with his master’s wife… he would have stayed being the masters servant and perhaps never become second in command to the King. What if Joseph just sunk into despair and isolation and never reached out to the inmates to interpret their dreams? I don’t believe he would have made it out of prison.

I think there are times in our lives especially in my life when life is just not fair, but upon reflection I realized that there is a time for everything.  The righteous are never forsaken and utterly forgotten and that God will deliver us from our trials(Psalm 37:25). I know it may seem hard and God may seem distant but just remember He is near.  In due season we will reap if we faint not.(Galatians 6:9)
