I do not watch much television consistently; so it is hard for me to keep with the most current trending news. BUT I keep on hearing about celebs who are no longer wearing their promise rings...
Like I mentioned before in a previous post, the majority of people who take those vows do not honor them. When the cares of this world creep in, as it was written, "but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Mark 4:19," those vows are not honored.
I am in my mid 20s now and I have learned through life lessons to be cautious of what I say and pledge (1 Corinthians 10:12). I personally think it is hard to really follow Jesus Christ every single day. We really have to take up the Cross and deny ourselves all the time, (Luke 9:23-24). In living life through faith many times we have to walk away from various friendships, relationships, environment, work on ourselves, and etc. Being Faithful to a God who we do not see is hard (John 20:29). It is so easier to embrace the tangible and fall in love with it more than to embrace and care about the principles of the Lord Jesus Christ, who we do not see.
I am personally against the Promise Rings, because I think making a vow at a young age is kind of crazy (James 5:12). At a young age, you need to get yourself wisdom through the word of God, great mentors, healthy friendships, and get to know yourself first (Your strengths and Your weaknesses)...so you won't be flip flopping in your faith and tossed to and fro with every thing that feels and seems right. (Joshua 1:8, Ephesians 4:14)
Below is a list of celebrities who reportedly took the purity vow and wore promise rings. Take note many people on this list are no longer wearing their rings, nevertheless it doesn't mean that they are not still holding to their commitments.
1. Jonas Brothers
2. Hilary Duff
3. Demi Lovato
4. Miley Cyrus
5. Jordin Sparks
6. Selena Gomez
Which one do you believe has greater value: A purity vow or living a transparent life in the audience of God?
