Teen suicide is the third leading cause of deaths in Teens. Teen girls are more likely to attempt suicide, but teenage boys are four to five times more likely to die by suicide. Some of the causes are related to mental issues such as a chemical imbalance; however most are related to the following:
-Depression, Loneliness, or Helplessness
-Stress over school or relationships
-Fear of ridicule for seeking help for an existing problem or issue
Ways to combat this:
-There are people all around you that can give you great advice and to help you move onward. Guidance counselors, Principals, counselors/therapists, other peers in your school. If you want to talk with someone anonymously, call, (1-800-784-2433).
It gets better! Seriously, there is a life beyond high school.
I graduated high school almost 10 years ago from a small town in New Jersey that you couldn't even find on a map if you wanted to. I graduated high school when I was 17 years old. I knew that I was done with that chapter of my life. I was over it. I set my sights on moving hundreds of miles away from my parents and doing whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I had a few bumps in the road, because I did not experience a few things in my teen years; however I learned a lot between the ages of 17 through 22. Like Puberty we all go through our emotional/mental growing pains. Some happen earlier in life (middle school/high school) and some happy later in life college, 20s, 30s or perhaps never! :)
College years were the best and most fun years of my life. Most of my best friends are from my undergraduate experience. I did some of the most foolish things and yet I learned a lot and made an 180 degree change in my understanding, perspective of life, and personality. Today I am 26, blessed, happy, and stress-free (right now).
High School is not the be-all/end-all. It gets better!
