Acknowledged "Failures" leads to progress

Acknowledged Failures = Progress
I know that sounds weird and erroneous; however I do have scriptures to back up my conclusion.

1. Acknowledging sin, character faults, and failures is the beginning of wisdom, change, and progress.
  • Romans 7:19 For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing.
  • Galatians 5:17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
  • Romans 7:15, "I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do."
2. Analyzing and judging yourself is a necessary requirement to grow up spiritually. Proverbs 14:16, "A wise man fears the LORD and shuns evil..."

  • 1 Corinthians 2:15 The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.
  • James 3:17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
  • Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
  • Job 28:28 And he said to man, 'The fear of the Lord--that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding."

3. Don't beat yourself up over your shortcomings just work towards overcoming them. Don't allow the sins of yesterday condemn you.
  • "for though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked are brought down by calamity." Proverbs 24:16
  • Psalm 37:24 though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.
4. Working towards killing the sin, fault, shortcoming, failure, and etc will one day lead to overcoming it.
  • "Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead" Phillippians 3:13
I believe sin is like a disease or addiction, whatever the sin is, it is like a part of your brain's chemistry it takes physical withdrawal and therapy/counseling to overcome it. In regards to whatever particular sin it is, I practice to withdraw myself from it, sometimes I put a mark on my calendar on each day that I go without doing the particular thing that it is that I have a habit of doing. In retrospect, I have overcome alot of things; however I still have alot to go; but I do not think there is a day when I will be without sin; however I am reminded to strive to be perfect, just as Jesus is Perfect and to kill my appetite to sin on a consistent basis.
